We had great pleasure in presenting the prize to the winners of our Christmas Raffle. Rotarian David - left - is pictured here with the two lucky prize winners. After a busy year we thoroughly enjoy our annual Christmas dinner. You can probably gauge from the broad smiles on this table that everyone is thoroughy enjoying themselves. Dec-11 Every Christmas we help Santa Claus to meet the local children, typically in a grotto at a garden centre. In return Santa Claus helps us to raise money in support of the many charities, good causes and organisations that we support locally, nationally and globally. Dec-11 Inner Wheel also helps Santa Claus to meet the children. Here we see an Inner Wheeler alongside some local 'elfs', all sporting the latest fashions from the North Pole. Our Rotary Club constructed a Meeting Point at the Wokingham Waterside Centre in Reading. We landscaped a natural hollow in the woods to make a small amphitheatre where groups using the Centre can get together and talk about their plans. National Rotary President Ray Burman, pictured here, visited the Centre to witness the project completion. 20-Dec-11 We also support youngsters who want to expand their life experience abroad. Here we see Andrew Webb, a local Explorer Scout, being congratulated by President David after Andrew's excellent presentation on his work experience in Africa. 22-Nov-11 Rotary sponsors a number of Youth programmes including the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Club President David took great pleasure in awarding Laurence Parbery with his certificate confirming he successfully completed the Award programme. 22-Nov-11 The Young Achievers Interact Club of Maiden Erlegh School held a Swimathon at Leighton Park to support the Royal Berks ‘Robbie the Robot' appeal. Twelve Interactors were joined by eight Rotarians from the Maiden Erlegh Rotary Club to swim the equivalent of the 21 miles from Dover to Calais which they achieved in just under 4 hours and raised £500. 19-Nov-11 Rotary is well know for its fund raising activities but we also have a strong social side. During one of our social evenings a group of Rotarians showed that they are great 'fans' of collecting in aid of the many charities and good causes that we support. 12-Nov-11 Rotary encourages speaking and presentation skills in young people and we are pleased that schools seem to agree. Here President David is awarding a prize to one of the winning teams during a local 'Youth Speaks' qualifying round. The Rotary Youth Speaks competition continues to go from strength to strength each year, producing some superb quality speakers in our young people aged from 11 to 18. 10-Nov-11. Rotary sponsors a number of Youth programmes including the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Club President David took great pleasure in awarding the Student we sponsored with her certificate confirming she successfully completed the Award programme. Oct-11 Porsche Cars Great Britain entertained our Rotarians & their guests to a tour of the Porsche Calcot facility which raised £1336 for Crossroads. A charity that provides respite services for Carers - for more information visit their web site at www.crossroads.org.uk. 27-Sep-11 Enjoying food and fellowship is a major part of the Club's social calendar. This smile on the face of one of our Rotarians says it all ! Sept-11 Sport plays a part in the social side of Rotary and here one our Golfing Rotarians is receiving his wiiner's medal. Sept-11 Our President 2011/12 David Cotton generously invited his Council for lunch. 21-Aug-11. The image of Rotary is often that of a serious group of business men, but as you can from this Sixties Evening photograph we are anything but. July-11 Fellowship is always high on the agenda and this bowling day proved to be a popular event.
