Organised by Rotarian Tony Cornell every month, a group of us enjoy a healthy walk then lunch in a local pub. Today's walk was through wooded, sandy country overlooking the Blackwater Valley and including Finchampstead Ridges and part of the Devils Highway. Lunch was enjoyed in the Queens Oak at Finchampstead.
On the day after Storm Eunice struck Berkshire, a group of us braved the mud and planted saplings at the JAC (Just Around the Corner) Rehoboth equestrian therapy centre near Wokingham. The tree saplings were donated by the Woodland Trust and were selected by children who visited Santa at Sheeplands Garden Centre before Christmas and wanted to play a part in supporting the environment.
Two groups of brave parents and children turned up to help with the planting, despite rain, wind gusts and mud. The first three pictures show Oliver and Amelia planting their tree saplings and standing with their mum, little Delilah and baby Freya who is snug in her sling.
Two more children braving the weather were Freddie and Amelia, seen here holding their tree saplings.
We were happy this month to be supporting the Ukrainian Community Centre in Reading with shipments of much needed items to the conflict zone.
Thanks to Mch Vehicle Rental, Bennetts Haulage Ltd, Big Yellow Self Storage and Wokingham Borough Council for their help in transporting and storing donated goods ready for shipment to the Ukraine. Great to see Rotary supporting the community locally and internationally.
Just before Easter we were happy to fund some Easter eggs for the Me2 children's party on 12th April and even persuaded our Easter Bunny to come along and present them. The children were delighted to get their eggs from the Easter Bunny and so were two of the volunteers.
We were delighted to recently deliver 120 chocolate Easter Eggs to Just Around the Corner ( www.jacoutreach.org). We are happy to support JAC's excellent work offering personal learning and development therapies for children and young people.
